Friday Ushers in Generation 4 of iPhone

After a disastrous discovery regarding a major software glitch in the iPhone’s signal-strength display, Apple announced to the international community that it plans to hold a press conference discussing the current generation of iPhone.

Friday marks the beginning of the discussion at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters where Apple spokespersons will address the delays in launching the software update tackling the glitch in iPhones regarding the bar measuring signal strength.

An Apple spokesman declined to discuss any further details of the conference.

Apple’s problems don’t end there. Consumer Reports’ product testers announced Monday that yet another hardware design flaw exists that causes calls to drop. This can easily be fixed by putting the phone in a case or using the universal fix-all, duct tape, to cover the gap between the phone’s two antennas; however, Consumer Reports refuses to commend the phone to consumers until Apple addresses this newest issue.

Apple denies that the iPhone 4 has any hardware flaws and declines to comment on Consumer Reports’ findings. Despite its faults, the iPhone 4 was Apple’s most successful product launch in its corporate history, selling 1.7 million phones in just the initial three days. The phone continues to remain unavailable in most retailers. Despite the damning findings by Consumer Reports, it still labels the iPhone the best smart phone on the market.

So when choosing your next smart phone, it may be essential to do a cost-benefit analysis deciding whether it’s worth the inconvenience of missed calls and software glitches to own the best smart phone out there.

Record Sales Pace Set For New Apple iPhone 4

Share prices of Apple Computer stock climbed almost 3 percent higher Wednesday, as sales of the new Apple iPhone 4 surpassed analysts expectations, even though many buyers were turned away due to an ordering snafu.

According to Apple, sales of the new iPhone 4 set a new company record for a single day of preorders, as more than 600,000 of the new iPhone were sold. Apple’s rivals, such as Nokia, who had earlier warned that sales data for its phones will be less than expected, will be up to quite a challenge to compete, as the new iPhone is on track to surpass sales of previous models, as well as the iPad computer tablet.

On Wednesday, Apple was forced to halt sales temporarily and issue an apology, as their order and approval systems were overloaded and supplies were exhausted, due to a much larger than expected amount of online orders. As soon as more inventory is available, sales will resume, according to AT&T, the exclusive U.S. carrier partner.

Analysts worry that this latest product shortage, coming not long after a component deficit at Apple was responsible for the delay of the international iPad launch, would cause buyers to purchase the products of rivals instead of waiting for Apple to refill the supply pipeline. Besides the inventory problems, the company has also had many technical problems and public relations embarrassments this year. One example was when the email addresses of key public figures were exposed after the iPad suffered a security breach, and another was when a iPhone prototype was either stolen or lost, prompting a felony investigation.

But as one million of the new iPhones were sold in the first three days, putting it on track to exceed sales numbers of the previous model, those loyal to Apple seemed unconcerned.
