Srinagar on High Alert: Security Bolstered at Dal Lake Ahead of Pahalgam Attack Anniversary

SRINAGAR Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert as the region approaches the first anniversary of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. On the directives of the Central Government, a massive security grid has been established to ensure the safety of residents and the thousands of tourists currently visiting the valley.

Heightened Vigilance at Major Landmarks

Security agencies have significantly intensified patrolling at key tourist destinations, with a specific focus on Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake. Personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), working in close coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, have been deployed in strength across the lake’s banks and adjoining areas.

Motorized boat patrols have been increased on the water, while foot patrols and mobile vehicle checkpoints (MVCPs) have been established at all major entry and exit points leading into the city.

Strategic Preparedness

The anniversary of the April 22, 2025, Baisaran Valley attack—which claimed the lives of 26 individuals—remains a sensitive period for the administration. According to senior officials, the current deployment is part of a proactive strategy to counter any potential threats and maintain the hard-earned peace in the region.

“Our agencies are fully vigilant and prepared for any eventuality,” stated a senior security official. “Special surveillance is being maintained in identified sensitive zones, and technical monitoring has been enhanced to ensure a foolproof security cover.”

Public Cooperation and Safety

Despite the visible increase in security personnel, the local administration has assured the public and visitors that there is no cause for panic.

  • Public Appeal: Residents and tourists are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest security post or helpline immediately.

  • Operational Control: Authorities emphasized that the situation remains fully under control, and tourism activities continue to function normally throughout the valley.

As Jammu and Kashmir sees a record-breaking tourist influx this year, the heightened security measures aim to provide a safe environment for visitors while honouring the memory of those lost in last year’s incident.
