27 pistols, 470 cartridges recovered: Two smugglers arrested for supplying weapons in Punjab after consignment of weapons from Pakistan.

Police has arrested two smugglers with a consignment of weapons sent from neighbouring country Pakistan. 27 pistols and 470 live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

Punjab Police has busted an international arms smuggling gang. In a joint operation by Counter Intelligence Ferozepur/Faridkot and SSOC Fazilka, two accused have been arrested while busting an arms smuggling network active near the India-Pakistan international border. Police arrested two arms suppliers from Fazilka area and recovered 27 illegal pistols (.30 bore) and 470 live cartridges from their possession.

On the basis of secret information, the police team conducted a joint operation near the Indo-Pak border near village Muhar Jamsher in Fazilka on Thursday. During this, two suspicious persons were arrested, who were identified as Mangal Singh Mangali resident Teja Rahela Gatti No. 3 and Gurmeet Singh resident of village Muhar Jamsher police station Sadar Fazilka.

Investigation revealed that these weapons were smuggled from Pakistan to Punjab by a foreign gang. These were to be used to carry out criminal activities in the state. The arrested accused were to deliver these weapons to operatives of various criminal groups. Police said that investigation is underway to identify the foreign network and others involved in it. Also, further action is being taken to expose the supply chain of weapons and the entire module.
