Punjab: Rape-accused AAP MLA Pathanmajra receives no relief, bail plea decision postponed; two-and-a-half-hour debate.

AAP MLA from the Sanaur constituency, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, embroiled in a rape case, has received no relief from the court. The Patiala court has deferred a decision on the MLA’s anticipatory bail plea. The next hearing has now been scheduled for October 6th.

The court heard arguments from both sides on Pathanmajra’s bail plea for approximately two and a half hours. During this period, the court heard arguments from both sides. After a lengthy debate, the court set the next hearing date for October 6th. It is noteworthy that the MLA had criticized his own government for the devastating floods in Punjab. Subsequently, a rape case was filed against him in Patiala based on a complaint from a woman from Zirakpur.

The woman alleged that Pathanmajra, claiming to be a divorcee, married her for the second time and sexually exploited her. Subsequently, Patiala police arrived to arrest Pathanmajra while he was visiting his relatives in Dabri village in Haryana. According to allegations, Pathanmajra fled the scene after firing and pelting stones at the police team. Following this, Pathanmajra released a video accusing the government of conspiring to have him killed in an encounter. Since then, the matter has been escalating. Pathanmajra has been absconding since the beginning of September. His previous bail application has been rejected once. Now, Pathanmajra has approached the court again.
