What did Shivraj Chauhan say?
Visiting the flood-affected areas in Punjab, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chauhan had said that the dams have become weak due to illegal mining. This is the reason why flood water has reached the villages. Now it is very important to strengthen those structures so that Punjab can be saved from such tragedy in future.
Shivraj said that short-term, mid-term and long-term plans will have to be made to get Punjab out of this crisis. The crisis is big but the Center will leave no stone unturned to get out of it. The state government will also have to work at the ground level with full seriousness. When the water recedes, there will be a danger of spreading the disease. Dead animals will have to be disposed of safely. Silt has accumulated in the fields, a plan will have to be made to remove it so that there is no crisis on the next crop.
