In a major move to protect motorists, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has overhauled FASTag regulations — banks can no longer deactivate FASTag accounts without informing customers.

Under the new Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process, banks must assist users in updating documents before taking any disconnection step. Customers can now contact their issuing bank or call the National Highway Helpline (1033) for any KYV-related issue or complaint.
What’s Changed:
-
No surprise closures: Banks must notify and help customers before closing FASTag accounts.
-
Simplified KYV: Uploading a side photo is no longer required — only a front photo with number plate and FASTag.
-
Auto-fetch RC details: Entering a vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number will automatically retrieve registration data.
-
Multiple vehicles, one number: Users can easily select which vehicle’s KYV to complete.
-
No frequent replacements: Old FASTags will remain valid unless damaged or misused.

The updated norms, issued by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), aim to reduce user hassles and ensure a smoother, more transparent experience for over 8 crore FASTag holders.
