The storm over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s shocking claim — that 22 voters in Haryana’s Rai constituency had the same photo of a Brazilian model — is starting to collapse under the weight of facts.
A ground investigation has revealed a stunning twist: 14 of those voters actually cast their own votes!

️ Rahul’s Big Allegation
Rahul Gandhi had accused the Election Commission of allowing “vote theft” through duplicate voter IDs featuring the same model’s picture. He declared this as proof of massive election fraud and a “murder of democracy.”
But when reporters went door to door in the Rai constituency, the truth came out — and it’s not what Rahul expected.
What the Investigation Revealed
-
Out of the 22 voters Rahul cited, 14 turned out to be genuine local women who personally cast their votes.
-
Their names, voter numbers, and addresses were correct, only the photos were wrong.
-
Election officials allowed them to vote after verifying voter ID cards.
-
One woman, Satyawati from Nahri village, didn’t vote — she lives in Sonipat city.
-
Seven voters from Kundli are unverified, but locals say they likely exist.
“When I went to vote, I saw someone else’s photo next to my name. I showed my voter card — they let me vote,” said Pinky from Machchraula.
“Yes, Rahul Gandhi is right about the wrong photo. But it’s my name, my husband’s name, and my house. I voted myself!” said Munesh from Machchraula.
House Number ‘0’ — The Real Reason
Rahul also pointed to a voter named Narendra in Dadri, whose address was listed as House No. 0, alleging that this was part of a deliberate ploy to hide voter identities.
But local records tell a different story:
-
Narendra’s family has lived in Dadri for 30 years.
-
Their voter IDs and Aadhaar cards — issued in 2013 — all show house number 0.
-
The reason? Their street simply doesn’t have numbered houses.
-
Officials confirmed there was no fraud, no fake address.
“Every document we have shows house number 0. We didn’t make that up,” said Narendra’s father, a local poet.
⚔️ Congress vs. BJP — Battle Over the Ballot
Rahul Gandhi cited eight seats in Haryana where Congress lost narrowly — some by just 32 votes — and blamed “voter list manipulation.”
But records show that two of those seats were BJP’s first-ever wins, including Dadri and Safidon.
Congress, meanwhile, also ignored its own narrow loss in Dabwali, where it was defeated by just 610 votes by the INLD.
Youth Congress Reaction
Haryana Youth Congress chief Nishit Kataria doubled down on Rahul’s claims, alleging:
“Thousands of votes have house number zero, names of dead people remain, and BJP workers have votes in both Haryana and UP. This is democracy’s murder.”
But ground verification shows clerical mistakes, not coordinated fraud.
⚡ The Bottom Line
Rahul Gandhi’s “Brazilian model” charge may have made headlines —
but the facts tell a different story.
✔️ 14 women voted themselves
✔️ Photos were wrong, not the votes
✔️ House number zero is an administrative quirk, not fraud
So while Rahul’s claim stirred outrage, it seems the model may have been Brazilian — but the voters were very much Indian.
