A shocking double suicide has rocked Barnala district of Punjab. In Mehta village, husband and wife — Nirmal Singh (50) and Ramandeep Kaur (45) — ended their lives by consuming poison. Before dying, they wrote the entire story of their humiliation on the wall and even released a video exposing their tormentor.
According to the family, a neighbour had been blackmailing Ramandeep Kaur for months, threatening to leak her private photos and videos. The accused allegedly forced himself into the couple’s life, entering their house even when Nirmal Singh wasn’t home.
Unable to bear the constant humiliation and fear, the couple chose death over disgrace. Nirmal Singh, a carpenter by profession, recorded a heart-breaking video before dying — naming the accused and demanding the death penalty for the man and his family.
“My family’s honour has been destroyed by my neighbour… I choose death for peace,” Nirmal Singh said in his final video.
The walls of their room became their final diary, where the couple wrote the names of the accused and the reasons for their tragic decision.
Police reached the scene after being alerted by villagers. DSP Tapa Gurvinder Singh confirmed that a suicide note has been recovered and the matter is under intense investigation. The accused neighbour is said to possess the woman’s objectionable photos and videos, which he used to blackmail the couple.
The entire village is in shock, and their only son, Sandeep Singh (12), is inconsolable after losing both parents in one day.
