Panchkula/Chandigarh:
The mysterious death of Aqeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, has exploded into a sensational case of betrayal, illicit relationships, and alleged murder conspiracy.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now officially taken over the probe, seizing Aqeel’s diary, phones, and WhatsApp chats as part of a full-scale investigation.

CBI Zeroes In: Diary and Digital Trail Under the Scanner
On Saturday, two senior CBI officers met with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Panchkula Police, completing the legal process to take over the high-profile case.
Investigators have seized Aqeel’s personal diary, said to contain a suicide note and explosive personal entries about his family and relationships.
CBI handwriting experts will examine the diary to determine authenticity, while the IT team is recovering deleted WhatsApp messages, call logs, and chat backups.
“The diary may hold the real truth behind Aqeel’s death,” said a senior CBI source.
Crime Scene to Be Reopened
The CBI will soon revisit Aqeel’s residence in MDC Sector 4, Panchkula, where he was found unconscious on October 16. Every section of the house, including Aqeel’s bedroom and adjoining areas, will be re-examined.
CBI officers will also question the doctors who conducted the post-mortem, as there are discrepancies in the earlier medical findings.
Sources say the agency suspects tampering or concealment of critical evidence.
⚡ Elite CBI Team Formed to Crack the Case
Deputy SP Rishiraj Sharma has formed a five-member elite squad specializing in murder, conspiracy, and digital forensics.
The probe now spans Malerkotla (Punjab) to Panchkula (Haryana) and Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), as the CBI follows every trace of Aqeel’s movements and contacts.
The Viral Video That Sparked the Storm
The case gained national attention after a video recorded by Aqeel himself surfaced online months before his death.
In the video, Aqeel made damning allegations against his father, former DGP Mohammad Mustafa — claiming he had an illicit relationship with Aqeel’s wife and was part of a family plot to kill him.
He also claimed he was forcibly kept in a rehab centre, cut off from the outside world.
“They want to finish me,” Aqeel said in the chilling video — words that now seem like a grim prophecy.
⚖️ CBI Files Case Against Former DGP, Ex-Minister Razia Sultana, and Family Members
The CBI has registered an FIR against:
-
Mohammad Mustafa (Former DGP, Punjab)
-
Razia Sultana (Former PWD Minister and Mustafa’s wife)
-
Aqeel’s wife and sister
All are accused of murder and criminal conspiracy under the IPC.
The case, initially handled by Panchkula Police, was transferred to the CBI after the Haryana government recommended a central probe due to its high political sensitivity.
️ Neighbor Confirms Aqeel’s Allegations
Neighbour Shamsuddin Chaudhary, a close acquaintance of the Mustafa family, confirmed that Aqeel’s fears were genuine.
“Aqeel told me everything. If authorities had acted on his warnings three months ago, he might still be alive,” said Chaudhary.
“He was scared of his own family.”
⚠️ Post-Mortem Report Still Inconclusive
Aqeel was declared dead at Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, after being found unconscious at home.
While the body was released after post-mortem on October 17, the viscera report is still awaited, keeping the official cause of death “undetermined.”
CBI’s Next Steps
The agency will now:
-
Conduct handwriting and forensic tests on Aqeel’s diary and note.
-
Recover digital evidence from phones and cloud backups.
-
Recreate the crime scene using forensic simulation.
-
Record fresh statements of key witnesses and medical staff.
Sources reveal that the CBI is treating this as a potential murder disguised as suicide, and no one — not even the former top cop or ex-minister — will be spared if found guilty.
The Unanswered Question
Was Aqeel Akhtar’s death a tragic suicide — or a cold-blooded family conspiracy hidden behind power and influence?
The CBI’s findings in the coming weeks are expected to shake Punjab’s political and police circles to their core.
