Legal Troubles Mount for MLA Pathanmajra; Patiala Police Seek Production Warrant in Mining Case

PATIALA – The legal crisis for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra continues to deepen. Currently lodged in jail facing serious criminal charges, the Sanour legislator is now set to be embroiled in a separate investigation involving illegal mining.

New Arrest Imminent

The Patiala Police have initiated the process to arrest Pathanmajra on a production warrant in connection with a long-standing mining case registered at the Julkan Police Station.

Station House Officer (SHO) Balwinder Singh confirmed that the MLA is among four individuals named in the FIR. The police are expected to move a formal petition in court shortly to secure his custody for interrogation. While the SHO declined to provide specific details regarding the nature of the mining violations, the move signals a tightening of the legal noose around the embattled politician.

End of a Seven-Month Manhunt

Pathanmajra’s recent incarceration follows a high-profile pursuit that lasted nearly seven months.

  • The Capture: He was apprehended by Patiala Police in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on March 25, 2026.

  • Judicial Custody: Following his arrest, he was brought back to Punjab and placed under police remand. Upon its expiry, the court sent him to jail under judicial custody, where he currently remains.

Background: The Rape and Fraud Allegations

The MLA’s primary legal battle stems from a case registered on September 1, 2025, at the Civil Lines Police Station in Patiala. A woman alleged that Pathanmajra:

  • Deceived her by falsely claiming to be a divorcee to enter into a marriage.

  • Committed rape and subjected her to criminal intimidation and fraud.

The situation turned violent during the initial stages of the investigation. When police attempted to arrest him in Karnal shortly after the FIR was filed, Pathanmajra’s associates allegedly opened fire and pelted stones at the authorities, allowing the MLA to flee and leaving a police officer injured.

Political Impact

As the police prepare to interrogate Pathanmajra on the mining charges, the double blow of a sensitive criminal case and an economic offense case has placed significant pressure on the regional political landscape. With the court now deciding on the production warrant, the MLA’s prospects for a swift release appear increasingly slim.
