CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR/AMRITSAR – A chilling sequence of targeted shootings has left four people dead across Punjab and Chandigarh within a single 24-hour window, triggering widespread alarm and placing regional law enforcement agencies on high alert.
The violence, spanning from the state capital to the hubs of Jalandhar and Amritsar, has prompted urgent investigations by specialized police units.

The Chandigarh Incident: Brazen Attack Near Police Post
The most high-profile incident occurred on Saturday, June 13, in the heart of Chandigarh’s Sector 11-D. At approximately 2:30 PM, two masked assailants stormed ‘Shri Kumar Medical Hall-1’ and unleashed a hail of 13 bullets at 45-year-old cashier Janki Das.
Despite the shop being located a mere 50 meters from a police checkpoint, the attackers executed the hit in just 1.5 seconds before fleeing toward the Crime Branch office on a waiting motorcycle.
Investigative Leads:
-
Mistaken Identity: Authorities are investigating whether the victim was targeted in error. ‘Kumar Brothers Chemist,’ located in the same sector, has previously been the target of extortion threats from the gangs of Goldy Brar, Lawrence Bishnoi, and Sampat Nehra.
-
Political Angle: The victim’s wife serves as a Sarpanch in the Rohru region of Himachal Pradesh; police are currently vetting this connection as a potential motive.
-
Claim of Responsibility: The Goldy Brar gang has claimed the attack via social media, coupling the admission with threats against rival factions.
Chandigarh SSP Sumer Pratap Singh has confirmed that elite teams from the Operation Cell and Crime Branch are actively pursuing the three suspects identified in the CCTV footage.
Jalandhar: Fatal Rivalry Claims Two Lives
On the night of June 12, a long-standing feud turned deadly in Jalandhar’s Dashmesh Nagar. Following a physical altercation on June 11, which left 24-year-old Simranjit injured, tensions boiled over the following evening.
As Simranjit and his associate, 23-year-old Saurabh, were en route to receive medical treatment, a group of 5 to 7 attackers on motorcycles and scooters intercepted them. Simranjit was killed instantly, while Saurabh succumbed to his gunshot injuries the following afternoon. Jalandhar police report they have identified 8 to 9 suspects involved in the assault.
Amritsar: Targeted Killing in Jandiala Guru
Violence also struck Jandiala Guru in Amritsar on the night of June 12. At 10:30 PM, 28-year-old Maninder was ambushed while returning home after closing his shop. Motorbike-borne assailants fired eight rounds, four of which struck the victim in the back. Maninder passed away while being transported to the hospital. The victim is survived by his wife and a five-month-old daughter. Investigators are currently scrutinizing CCTV footage to trace the shooters’ escape route.
Authorities Respond
As the death toll from these separate incidents climbs to four, the state police are working to determine if any of the crimes are interconnected. While the Chandigarh shooting bears the hallmark of organized gang activity, the Jalandhar and Amritsar incidents appear to be driven by local rivalries and targeted agendas.
“We have formed dedicated teams to secure the areas and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” a senior police official stated.

As the investigations unfold, the region remains on edge, awaiting further updates from the police departments in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, and Amritsar.
