Punjab Flood: Death toll in floods rises, 46 deaths so far, 1.74 lakh hectares of crops destroyed

The death toll due to floods in Punjab is continuously increasing. A total of 46 deaths have been recorded due to floods till Saturday evening. At the same time, crops of farmers in 1.74 lakh hectares have been submerged. Military forces are engaged in relief and rescue operations.

The death toll due to floods in Punjab has reached 46, while no trace of the three people missing from Pathankot has been found yet. So far, seven people have died in Amritsar, five in Barnala, four in Bathinda, seven in Hoshiarpur, two in Gurdaspur, four in Ludhiana, six in Pathankot, three in Mansa, 2 each in Rupnagar and Mohali and one each in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Patiala and Sangrur.

Crops destroyed in 1.74 lakh hectares

At the same time, the water of the rivers is continuously affecting the crops of the farmers in Punjab. The area of ​​crops destroyed by drowning in water has increased to 1,74,454 hectares. Crops have suffered more damage in Fazilka, Kapurthala, Mansa, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran.

Soldiers engaged in relief and rescue operations

The military forces engaged in relief and rescue operations have also increased the number of contingents from 24 to 27, while 23 teams of NDRF and two teams of SDRF are engaged in helping the people. The Punjab government has set up 139 relief camps, in which 6121 people have been kept. So far, 3,87,013 population of 1996 villages of the state are directly facing the brunt of the floods.

Hope for relief package from central government

According to Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Punjab government is working to provide relief to the people through its resources. If the central government releases special relief package and the outstanding amount of the state, then the situation can be controlled.
