Major Change: Doing ITI in Punjab now offers double benefits, with only two exams to earn 10th and 12th certificates.

ITI students used to waste time obtaining their academic certificates, but that will no longer be the case. By completing the ITI course and taking two exams, they will now receive their academic certificates. This will also help them in their job search.

Doing ITI in Punjab now offers double benefits. ITI students will also receive 10th and 12th grade certificates, requiring only two exams. The Technical Education Department has finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding this. This major change is being implemented under the new education policy.

This MoU is being signed with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The department has sent a copy of the MoU to NIOS, which will issue detailed guidelines, after which it will be implemented. According to the department, if someone pursues a two-year ITI course after eighth grade, they will have to take two exams, one for a language and the other for their preferred subject. Passing these two exams will earn them a 10th-grade certificate in addition to the ITI.

Similarly, students pursuing ITI after 10th grade will also receive a 12th-grade certificate. Previously, an MoU was signed between the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and the NIOS, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. An educational certificate is required from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), which is crucial for admission to polytechnic, technical diploma, or undergraduate programs.

Facility Available at 137 ITIs
This facility will be available at 137 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Punjab, with a total of 52,000 seats. In recent years, student interest in ITIs has been increasing. Last year, ITI enrollment was 93 percent. This is why the Technical Education Department is introducing new trades in ITIs. The department is also working on introducing technical education courses in schools. This is being pursued for the overall education system under the National Education Policy. A proposal has also been developed to provide insurance coverage to ITI students, which will be implemented soon.

A Virtual Reality Lab to Open in Every District
To promote technical education, the department will open a virtual reality lab in every district. Artificial Intelligence (AI) labs are also being established in six ITIs. This will help students gain practical knowledge. The VR labs will help students safely practice high-risk or dangerous tasks without risking physical injury or damaging equipment. Students will gain practical skills by learning about complex equipment and real-world machinery.
