Barnala, Punjab. The Panchayat Secretary has been arrested by the Vigilance team in a bribery case. The accused secretary was taking commission from the contractor in lieu of passing the bill.
The Panchayat Secretary has been caught taking bribe. Here we are not talking about Secretary i.e. Abhishek of Panchayat web series, but the Panchayat Secretary has been caught taking bribe in Barnala, Punjab. The accused secretary has been caught red handed with the bribe amount by the Vigilance team.
The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Panchayat Secretary Gurmel Singh posted in Barnala on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 20 thousand. A spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused secretary Gurmel Singh has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a contractor from Patiala.
The complainant contractor in his complaint to the Vigilance Bureau alleged that he had installed a solar pump on panchayat land in village Fatehgarh Chhanna in Barnala district in 2023 at a cost of Rs 3 lakh 84 thousand, but the said Panchayat Secretary was demanding bribe in lieu of passing the bills. Panchayat Secretary Gurmel Singh has demanded a bribe of Rs 20 thousand as commission.
Vigilance investigated the contractor’s complaint. After investigation, the allegations were found to be true. After this, the Vigilance team had laid a trap to catch the accused secretary red-handed. The secretary got trapped in the trap laid by the Vigilance and the accused Panchayat Secretary Gurmel Singh was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 20 thousand from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused Panchayat Secretary Gurmel Singh in the Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala Range under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused will be produced in court on Tuesday. The Vigilance team can also take the accused on remand for questioning after producing him in the court.
