Punjab: AAP government on alert after Haryana ADGP’s suicide case, takes major decision for officers and employees

Following the suicide of Haryana IPS officer ADGP Y Puran Kumar, the Punjab government is showing concern for its employees. The Punjab government wants all employees to work without stress or depression, and periodic mental counselling is crucial.

The Punjab government will take care of the mental health of its employees. Counselling programs will also be initiated to ensure that Punjab Police personnel and officers do not work under stress and depression. In fact, following the suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar in Haryana, the Punjab government is showing increased concern for the mental health of its employees.

However, due to the increasing workload and staff shortage in all government offices, work pressure is constantly increasing, leading to increased stress. Furthermore, various disputes (domestic and work-related) plague employees and officers. Sometimes, depression becomes unbearable, and in such a situation, individuals who cannot bear it take the extreme step of suicide. Many such cases have also been seen with security force personnel and officers. The latest example is the suicide case of Y. Puran Kumar, an ADGP-rank IPS officer of the Haryana cadre.

In view of these factors, the Punjab government wants all employees to work without stress and depression, and therefore, periodic mental counselling is essential. The Punjab Health Minister is also very concerned about IPS officer suicide cases.

These factors lead people to suicide.

Consultant psychologist Dr. Kuldeep Singh explains that many factors can compel a person to consider suicide, but it is a highly inappropriate step. According to Dr. Singh, various conflicts and depressions can become so prevalent in life that they feel they lose hope for the future. Employees should continue to be mentally aware and strong. When a senior officer commits suicide, it is not just a personal decision, but a story of deep-seated struggles in their life. They may have been under prolonged mental stress and may be experiencing a lack of emotional support. A hurt to self-esteem leaves a person shattered from within. His decision-making abilities are clouded, and he begins to feel worthless. In such a situation, even the joys of life seem meaningless. He feels that perhaps there is no way out. He becomes distant from family and society, and he is unable to express his inner pain. In these moments, negative thoughts take over, and suicide seems to be the only solution.

Suicide Case Shocks
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the suicide case of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar has shocked him. He was deeply depressed. This incident shows how important mental health is. We have implemented a special policy related to this. The focus on mental counselling will be further increased for employees of other departments, including the police department. We are very serious about ensuring that soldiers and officers work without stress.

There are disputes among officers, but I will explain: Mann
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann admitted that disputes among officers continue to occur in Punjab as well. He has been the Chief Minister of Punjab for three and a quarter years. My officers often have minor disputes. It’s okay, it’s part of human nature. I just sit them down and talk to them about why they fight. I tell them that after clearing the UPSC, you’ve come here to serve the people, not to squabble among yourselves.
