Richie KP (36), son of former Punjab Congress President and former MP Mohinder Singh KP, died in a road accident in Jalandhar, Punjab, around 10:30 pm on September 13th.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Gursharan Singh, the driver of the Creta car that hit the car in Jalandhar, in connection with the accident that killed Mohinder KP’s son.
The accident occurred on the intervening night of September 13th and 14th, killing Mohinder KP’s son. According to the FIR, a speeding Creta car hit Richie’s Fortuner car. Four cars were involved in the accident. The driver of the Creta car fled the scene after the accident. In this case, the accused had sought anticipatory bail from the High Court, which was rejected by the High Court.

Richie was travelling in a Fortuner car and had left home to return a mobile phone to a friend. Seriously injured in the accident, Richie was taken to Patel Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night. Police have registered a hit-and-run case. Richie was the only son of his parents and has two sisters.

According to a taxi driver present at the scene, a woman and a child were also in the Creta car, who were injured in the accident. The Creta driver fled the scene after the accident. Richie KP was a close relative of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. His father, Mohinder Singh, was a senior KP Congress leader, MP, minister, and PPCC president. However, he later left the Congress and joined the Akali Dal.
