Punjab on High Alert Ahead of Diwali: DGP Orders Maximum Police Deployment, 203 Foreign Handlers Identified

Chandigarh, October 15:
Ahead of the Diwali festival, the Punjab Police has been placed on high alert to ensure peace and security across the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday directed all district police chiefs to maximize police deployment and maintain heightened vigilance, especially at sensitive checkpoints, markets, and public gatherings.

The DGP, accompanied by ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force Pramod Ban and ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad, held security review meetings in Tarn Taran and Batala districts to assess preparedness and review ongoing operations.

DGP Yadav revealed that 203 foreign handlers linked to terror networks and organized crime syndicates have been identified. He said the process of issuing Red Corner and Blue Corner notices against them has been initiated in coordination with central agencies to ensure their deportation and prosecution in India.

Highlighting cross-border threats, the DGP said, Pakistan is continuously spreading narco-terrorism in Punjab and attempting to disturb peace, but the Punjab Police is effectively foiling its nefarious designs.

Since September 2024, Punjab Police has arrested 90 terrorists and busted 26 terror modules, recovering a significant cache of weapons, explosives, ammunition, hand grenades, and RDX, marking a major success in counter-terrorism operations.

On the anti-drug front, DGP Yadav informed that assets worth ₹205 crore belonging to drug traffickers have been frozen under Section 68F of the NDPS Act.

Senior officers including Police Commissioner Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, DIG Ferozepur Range Nilambari Jagdale, and DIG Border Range Nanak Singh also participated in the high-level meeting.
