Jalandhar, Punjab:
The troubles of Bhushan Kumar, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Phillaur police station, continue to deepen. Already accused of exploiting the family of a minor rape victim, the suspended officer has now landed in a fresh controversy — this time with alleged links to Pakistan.

According to reports, before the registration of a case against him, Sub-Inspector Bhushan Kumar claimed he had received a threat call from Pakistan. The caller allegedly introduced himself as Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti and warned the officer over the phone.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, Shahzad Bhatti himself released a video and audio message from Pakistan, denying any involvement in the matter. Bhatti claimed that the number used for the alleged threat call was not his, asserting, “If I ever threaten anyone from Pakistan, I do it directly from my own number.”
Agencies on Alert After Pakistan Link Emerges
Following the emergence of this alleged cross-border connection, central intelligence agencies have become active. They are now examining the call records and technical data to verify whether the call actually originated from Pakistan or was made using a spoofed number to frame the don.
A senior official confirmed that all electronic communication linked to the case is being scrutinized. “The matter involves an international number, and we are coordinating with cyber and intelligence units to verify the source,” the officer said.
The controversy has sparked major concern within the police department, raising questions about whether the Pakistan angle was fabricated to divert attention from the ongoing case against Bhushan Kumar.
Commission Demands Stronger Action
Meanwhile, Punjab State Child Rights Commission Chairman Kanwardeep Singh has taken strong notice of the developments. He has formed a special committee to probe the handling of the case and criticized the police for allegedly using weak sections in the FIR.
“Sub-Inspector Bhushan Kumar molested a woman and exploited the victim’s family. The POCSO Act should have been invoked, but it wasn’t. The police appear to be shielding their own officer,” Singh said.
He has sought a detailed explanation from SSP Harvinder Virk on why stringent sections were omitted during the registration of the case.
Political and Police Pressure Mounts
Adding to the pressure, AAP leader Kimti Bhagat has threatened to stage a protest outside the SSP’s office if tougher legal provisions are not added against the accused officer. “If justice is not served, we will not remain silent,” he warned.
Meanwhile, DSP S.S. Bal confirmed that CCTV footage from Phillaur police station is being analyzed. “We have written to Chandigarh and secured all recordings. If any objectionable material is found, the POCSO Act will be added to the FIR,” he said.

The Big Question Remains
As the investigation expands in two directions — the alleged misconduct by Bhushan Kumar and the mystery call from Pakistan — the case has taken a sensational turn.
With intelligence agencies now involved, the Punjab Police face growing scrutiny over whether the officer tried to fabricate a Pakistan angle or if a deeper cross-border element truly exists.
For now, one thing is certain — the controversy surrounding Bhushan Kumar is far from over.
