Death of Former Punjab DGP’s Son: Haryana Govt Seeks CBI Probe Amid Explosive Allegations and Political Storm

Panchkula: The mysterious death of Aqeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, is snowballing into a major controversy — with the Haryana government now writing to the Union Home Ministry to hand over the investigation to the CBI.

Aqeel, 35, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his home in Sector 4, MDC, Panchkula, on October 16. What began as a family tragedy has now taken the shape of a full-blown criminal and political drama.

Following a complaint by Shamsuddin of Malerkotla, Panchkula Police filed a murder and criminal conspiracy case against Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law. The FIR was registered at the MDC Police Station on October 17 — a day after Aqeel’s death.

Ex-DGP skips SIT summons

Despite being summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Mustafa did not appear for questioning. SIT chief ACP Vikram Nehra confirmed that investigators are focusing on establishing the exact cause of Aqeel’s death, including his medical and psychological history.

“A political conspiracy,” says Mustafa

Breaking his silence, Mustafa hit back, calling the entire case a political vendetta. Speaking to the media, he alleged a malicious attempt to defame him, insisting that his son suffered from drug addiction and mental illness for nearly two decades.

He rubbished the sensational video statement his son recorded before his death, calling it fabricated and misleading, and claimed his political opponents are exploiting his son’s condition to frame him.

As the case deepens, the Centre’s decision on a possible CBI takeover could open a new chapter in this already explosive family and political saga — one that’s shaking both Punjab and Haryana’s power corridors.
