“Shame on You!” — Punjab Women’s Commission Tears Into Sub-Inspector for Mocking 14-Year-Old Rape Victim

A shocking scene unfolded in Jalandhar when Punjab Women’s Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill lashed out at suspended Sub-Inspector Bhushan Kumar of Phillaur Police Station for his disgraceful conduct in a rape case involving a 14-year-old girl.

In a scathing rebuke that left the officer speechless, Raj Lali Gill thundered —

“You should be ashamed! The girl who was raped is your granddaughter’s age. Is this how you speak to a victim’s mother?”

Bhushan Kumar, who is already under suspension, was accused of mocking and humiliating the rape victim’s mother, and even uploading a video related to the case on social media — an act that has enraged the Commission.

Raj Lali Gill demanded CCTV footage from the police station and ordered a high-level inquiry into the officer’s behavior, saying,

“Your voice is clearly heard in the recording. You’re laughing, talking casually — when a child has been raped! Do you even realize your responsibility in uniform?”

The Commission Chairperson also grilled him over procedural lapses —

“Why were there no women officers present during questioning? Why wasn’t the family allowed inside? This is unacceptable. Strict action will be taken.”

Gill made it clear that no officer, however senior, would be spared if found guilty of exploiting victims or mishandling sensitive cases.

“This isn’t a joke. You’ve insulted the victim, the police uniform, and humanity itself.”
