Garhshankar (Hoshiarpur):
Tense moments unfolded on Barapur–Kunail Road as two bike-borne miscreants opened fire on Punjab Police during a naka check. Police retaliated instantly — one was shot in the leg and both were arrested on the spot.

The accused have been identified as:
-
Karan Gajpal alias Kannu, son of Basant Roy, resident of Bassi Wazidpur (Haryana) — injured in leg.
-
Simranpreet Singh alias Simmu, son of Baljeet Singh, resident of Ibrahimpur (Garhshankar).*
DSP Daljit Singh Khakh said the naka was set up under SHO Gagandeep Singh’s leadership. When signaled to stop, the duo fired at police. One bullet hit police post in-charge Satnam Singh’s bulletproof jacket, another struck a police vehicle. Police responded with 5–6 rounds, quickly overpowering the shooters.

Both accused have a criminal past — Kannu faces an Arms Act case in Hoshiarpur, while Simmu is booked for murder in SBS Nagar. The injured has been hospitalized.
Police have launched a detailed probe and seized their motorcycle.
