Patiala Tragedy: Former Akali Dal Councilor Babbi Mann Ends Life with Gunshot — Leaves Note Saying “No One Responsible”

Patiala, November 1: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across Patiala, former Shiromani Akali Dal councillor Babbi Mann allegedly shot himself dead inside his office on Friday evening. The 64-year-old’s body was found lying in a pool of blood, moments after a loud gunshot was heard by his family and neighbours in Raghomajra.

According to police officials, Mann’s office was located directly opposite his residence. Around 4:30 PM, he left his house for the office as usual — but minutes later, a single gunshot echoed through the locality. When family members rushed to the spot, they discovered him lifeless, with a bullet wound to his temple.

The police team, led by DSP City One Satnam Singh, reached the scene immediately and began an investigation with the help of forensic experts. A licensed revolver and a handwritten suicide note were recovered from the office.

In the note, Babbi Mann clearly mentioned that “no one is responsible” for his death. He also stated that he owed ₹7 lakh to a commission agent, and requested that the amount be handed over to his family.

Family members told police that Mann had been under severe mental distress for quite some time. They have not raised any suspicion of foul play. Based on the suicide note and family statements, police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while further investigation continues.

DSP Satnam Singh confirmed, “It appears to be a case of suicide. The former councillor shot himself in the temple with his licensed revolver. The note found at the spot will be verified during the probe.”

The tragic death of Babbi Mann — once an influential local political figure of the Shiromani Akali Dal — has left the community in deep sorrow.
