Chandigarh, November 11: Following the bomb blast in the national capital, Delhi, the Punjab Police has declared a state-wide red alert, significantly enhancing security across all districts. The Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, has issued directions to all Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to remain on high alert, strengthen surveillance, and intensify vehicle and personnel checking operations.

In a statement issued on Monday, the DGP emphasized that all field units must maintain heightened vigilance, particularly at vulnerable and sensitive locations, including transport hubs, public places, and key government establishments.
“All district police chiefs have been instructed to deploy adequate forces, increase the number of checkpoints, and ensure round-the-clock patrolling. Any suspicious activity or individual must be promptly verified,” the statement read.
Chandigarh Under Tight Security
In Chandigarh, the police have stepped up deployment and are maintaining strict vigilance at major points across the city. Additional police personnel have been stationed outside the Punjab Police Headquarters in Sector 9, while Sector 17 and Sector 43 bus stands, as well as the Chandigarh railway station, are witnessing comprehensive security checks.
All entry points to the Union Territory have been sealed with multiple layers of blockades, where vehicles arriving from other states are being thoroughly checked.
A senior Chandigarh Police official stated that these measures are “preventive and precautionary in nature” and aimed at ensuring the safety of residents amid heightened national security concerns.
District-Level Operations Across Punjab
Across Punjab, district police units have been conducting special night-long operations. In Khanna, police teams under the supervision of DSP Vinod Kumar conducted intensive checking on the National Highway, stopping vehicles and questioning travellers during overnight security checks.
“Acting on alerts from central agencies, we have enhanced vigilance on highways, railway stations, and public gathering points. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious person or object immediately to the police,” DSP Kumar said.
In Moga, the district police have established high-tech checkpoints at all major entry points and deployed mobile patrolling teams to ensure real-time monitoring. Security has also been reinforced at bus stands, railway stations, and marketplaces. The police have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with ongoing security operations.
State Police Maintaining Maximum Vigil
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla confirmed that following the Delhi incident, Punjab Police has been maintaining the highest level of alertness across the state.
“Security has been intensified in all districts, and additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas. Any suspicious movement or object will be thoroughly examined,” Shukla said.
In recent weeks, Punjab Police have recovered explosives, hand grenades, and illegal weapons from different regions, which had already prompted a security upgrade. The Delhi blast has further heightened the need for proactive vigilance to ensure public safety.
Public Advisory
Punjab Police has urged citizens to stay calm, remain vigilant, and immediately inform the nearest police station or dial 112 in case of any suspicious activity or unattended object.
