Kapurthala: A routine religious pilgrimage to Pakistan has turned into a serious mystery after Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Amnipur village in Kapurthala district, failed to return to India with her group. Multiple agencies — including the Punjab Police, SGPC, and central security units — are now investigating the case, which has raised several red flags at the immigration level.

Left India for Nankana Sahib — Never Came Back

Sarabjit Kaur was part of a Sikh jatha that travelled to Nankana Sahib to pay obeisance at various gurdwaras. While all other members returned on schedule, Sarabjit was not listed among the returnees on November 13, nor did she come back with any later batch.

Blank Columns in Immigration Form Trigger Alarm

According to officials, Sarabjit left critical fields blank in the immigration form — including her nationality and passport number. This omission is now a central point in the investigation.

Authorities say such gaps in documentation are highly unusual and have raised questions about intent, facilitation, and whether the move was pre-planned.

Marriage With Pakistani Youth Suspected

Preliminary findings suggest Sarabjit was in contact with a Pakistani youth belonging to the Jatt community, and both allegedly knew each other before the trip. Investigators suspect she may have married him in Pakistan and chosen to stay back.

However, no official confirmation has been issued yet.

Indian Agencies Contact Pakistan Authorities

The SGPC, Punjab Police, and central agencies have established communication with their counterparts in Pakistan to verify:

  • Whether Sarabjit is safe

  • Whether she has married

  • Whether she is being held, coerced, or has stayed voluntarily

  • Her current legal and immigration status

Officials warn that if the marriage is officially confirmed, her return, documentation, and citizenship procedures could become legally complex.

Family Fears She Was Lured

Sarabjit’s family alleges she may have been misled or lured, and has appealed to both state and central governments to bring her back urgently.

Three Criminal Cases Already Registered

Talwandi Chaudhariyan SHO Nirmal Singh has confirmed that three separate cases were already registered against Sarabjit Kaur in Kapurthala before her departure.

Police say all angles — including personal, criminal, immigration-related, and cross-border links are under scrutiny.

High-Stakes Investigation Underway

With the matter involving cross-border movement, possible legal violations, and a suspected marriage in Pakistan, officials describe the case as extremely sensitive.

Major developments are expected once confirmations arrive from Pakistan.
