Jalandhar — A devastating explosion at a scrap warehouse in the Santokhpura area of Jalandhar has left one person dead and two others critically injured. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, sent shockwaves through the residential neighborhood, with the force of the blast heard up to a kilometre away.

Victim and Casualties
The deceased has been identified as Rajinder, a resident of Santokhpura. According to eyewitness accounts, the force of the explosion was so powerful that the victim’s body was blown to pieces. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries in the blast and were immediately rushed to the civil hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Scene of Destruction
The intensity of the explosion caused significant structural damage to the surrounding area. Walls of nearby residential houses were severely shaken by the blast, and windows in neighbouring buildings were damaged. The widespread impact of the explosion created panic among local residents, many of whom evacuated their homes following the incident.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the blast, personnel from Police Station-8 rushed to the scene. The entire area has been cordoned off, and a comprehensive investigation has been initiated. Senior police officers, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station-8, have been stationed at the scene to oversee the investigation.
A forensic team has also been deployed to conduct a detailed examination of the blast site and gather evidence. The police department has assured residents that a thorough investigation will be conducted from all angles to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Possible Causes Under Investigation
While the exact cause of the blast remains unclear at this stage, two primary theories are being investigated. Local residents have suggested that a gas cylinder explosion may have triggered the blast, while others suspect that explosive materials or suspicious substances stored within the scrap warehouse could have been responsible.
“The real cause of the blast will be revealed only after the investigation is complete,” police officials stated at the scene.

Current Status
The injured victims remain hospitalized at the civil hospital under medical care. Authorities have sealed off the blast site and are continuing their investigation to establish the precise cause of the explosion and ensure public safety in the area.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in scrap warehouses and the storage of potentially hazardous materials in residential areas. The police investigation is expected to provide clarity on whether proper safety measures were in place at the facility.
