Dense Fog Triggers Massive Pile-up; Seven Buses and Three Cars Engulfed in Flames
Mathura District — A devastating accident unfolded on the Yamuna Expressway early Tuesday morning when seven buses and three cars collided in dense fog, resulting in a massive fire that claimed six lives and left more than 40 people injured.
The collision occurred in Mathura district, transforming a routine commute into a scene of chaos and tragedy. Emergency services responded swiftly to contain the blaze and rescue survivors from the burning vehicles, which were completely packed with passengers at the time of impact.
Eyewitness Accounts Paint Picture of Horror
Survivors and eyewitnesses described harrowing moments as the accident unfolded. One witness, who was sleeping inside one of the buses at the time, recalled the terrifying sequence of events.
“Suddenly, there was a loud explosion,” the eyewitness recounted. “When I opened my eyes, the fire had already spread rapidly. I could hear the screams of passengers everywhere. There was complete chaos and panic.”
According to initial reports, the collision triggered a chain reaction in which three to six buses caught fire almost immediately. With every seat occupied at the time of the accident, passengers found themselves trapped in rapidly spreading flames with limited escape routes.
Emergency Response Mobilized
Upon receiving information about the incident, police and district administration officials rushed to the scene. Fire brigades arrived promptly and brought the inferno under control, preventing further tragedy.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathura Shlok Kumar confirmed the scale of the disaster. “Seven buses and three cars collided, causing all the vehicles to catch fire,” SSP Kumar stated. “Relief and rescue operations are almost complete. So far, six deaths have been confirmed, while more than 40 injured have been admitted to the hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.”
The District Magistrate, Senior Superintendent of Police, Circle Officer, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate all reached the accident site to coordinate response efforts and oversee relief operations.
Medical Response and Casualties
All injured passengers were transported to the district hospital for treatment. Despite the severity of the accident, medical officials reported that the conditions of injured survivors remain stable. The bodies of the six deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Government Support Announced
Taking note of the tragedy, the Chief Minister announced immediate relief measures for the victims and their families. Each family of the deceased will receive compensation of Rs. 2 lakh, and instructions have been issued for comprehensive and specialized treatment for the injured.
The District Magistrate confirmed that all injured are receiving appropriate medical care and that the administration is providing full assistance to survivors and their families.

Investigators attribute the accident partly to dense fog conditions that reduced visibility on the expressway. The combination of poor visibility and the high volume of vehicles traveling on the highway at the time created dangerous conditions that culminated in the catastrophic pile-up.
