DGP Gaurav Yadav Presents Sweeping Report as CM Mann Vows Zero Tolerance for Criminals
In a powerful show of resolve against organized crime, Punjab’s police force has been unleashed with unprecedented authority to dismantle the criminal networks plaguing the state. At a high-stakes review meeting on Saturday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann delivered a stark message: there will be no mercy for gangsters, drug traffickers, or their enablers.
The numbers tell a story of aggressive action. From January 1 to December 17, Punjab Police arrested 916 gangsters and killed 13 in armed encounters. The force busted 389 criminal modules and recovered 594 weapons—a relentless assault on the infrastructure of organized crime that has long destabilized the state.

A Massive War on Narcotics
The drug trafficking crackdown has been nothing short of extraordinary. A staggering 63,053 drug cases have been registered during the government’s tenure, with a special campaign launched on March 1 yielding even more dramatic results: 40,302 traffickers arrested and 30,144 FIRs filed in just nine months.
The seizures paint a picture of a police force hitting hard where it counts. Officers confiscated 5,119.94 kg of heroin, 3,458.53 kg of opium, 5.82 kg of cocaine, and 82.04 kg of ice. Nearly five crore drug capsules were pulled from the streets. And critically, Rs 52.46 crore in drug money was recovered—money that would have funded further criminal enterprise.
Choking Off Criminal Finance
The financial investigation wing has proven equally relentless, seizing illegal assets worth a staggering Rs 2,730 crore across more than 1,400 cases. This scorched-earth approach targets the lifeblood of organized crime—the money that sustains operations, buys weapons, and corrupts officials.
The judicial system has matched the police’s intensity. Courts disposed of over 25,000 NDPS cases, securing 21,600 convictions with an impressive 88 percent conviction rate in 2025. These numbers prove that arrests translate into justice.
Technology as a Weapon
In a modern twist on traditional policing, the Safe Punjab WhatsApp chatbot and other technological measures have become force multipliers. These channels generated 30,000 actionable intelligence inputs, leading directly to 11,000 FIRs and approximately 14,000 arrests. The result: significant success in preventing drone-based drug trafficking—a sophisticated threat that nearly paralyzed parts of the state.

A Clear Message: No Mercy
At the review meeting, CM Mann was unambiguous. Police have been given a free hand. Strict action against criminals is not just policy—it is the government’s priority. The Chief Minister made crystal clear that there will be no leniency, no compromise, and no rest until the state is crime-free.
DGP Gaurav Yadav’s comprehensive report demonstrates that when given clear directives and operational freedom, Punjab’s police force is capable of mounting a formidable counter-offensive against organized crime. The message to criminals is unmistakable: the days of operating with impunity in Punjab are over.
The offensive continues. The crackdown intensifies. And there will be no let-up until every gangster, every trafficker, and every criminal enterprise operating in Punjab faces the full weight of the law.
