Punjab Suspends Two Senior IAS Officers Over Financial and Tender Irregularities

Chief Secretary Issues Orders with Immediate Effect

The Punjab government has suspended two senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers with immediate effect, citing allegations of financial and administrative irregularities. Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha issued suspension orders under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Officers Suspended

The suspended officials are:

Kamal Kishore Yadav, who held the dual position of Administrative Secretary in the Department of Industries and Commerce and served as a key figure in the government’s flagship Invest Punjab project.

Jaspreet Singh, who was serving as Managing Director of Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation Limited (Punjab Infotech).

Allegations Against the Officers

The suspensions stem from two separate investigations into administrative lapses within their respective departments.

Kamal Kishore Yadav’s suspension is linked to complaints regarding irregularities in tender processes within the Department of Industries and Commerce. These allegations surfaced recently and have prompted the government to initiate action against the administrative secretary who oversaw these tenders.

Jaspreet Singh’s suspension is connected to ongoing investigations into financial irregularities at Punjab Infotech. Sources indicate that complaints of financial mismanagement at the state’s information technology corporation have been pending for some time, with the government actively probing these matters.

Administrative Action

Both suspended officers have been attached to the Chandigarh Secretariat pending further investigation. This attachment status typically allows the government to complete its inquiry while removing the officers from their operational roles.

The suspension of Kamal Kishore Yadav is particularly significant given his central role in Invest Punjab, a key state government initiative aimed at promoting investment and industrial development in the state.

Legal Framework

The suspensions were executed under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, which provides the government with provisions to suspend officers pending investigation or departmental proceedings. The immediate implementation of these orders underscores the gravity with which the government views the alleged irregularities.

The action reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to administrative accountability and transparency in public service administration, particularly concerning the management of state resources and procurement processes.

This is a developing story. Further details are expected as investigations progress.
