AMRITSAR – In a significant blow to cross-border weapon trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a high-profile smuggling module. Four individuals, including one minor, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in an illegal arms network operating via social media channels with Pakistani handlers.
The operation resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of “sophisticated” weaponry, highlighting the persistent security challenges along the international border.

The Operation & Recoveries
Acting on precise intelligence, the police intercepted the group in the Attari sector. During the operation, officials seized a variety of hardware intended for local criminal syndicates:
-
Firearms: 7 sophisticated pistols.
-
Ammunition: 12 live cartridges.
-
Logistics: 1 motorcycle used for transporting the consignments.
The Social Media Connection
Preliminary investigations suggest a modern shift in smuggling tactics. The accused were reportedly in direct contact with Pakistani smugglers through encrypted social media platforms. These digital channels were used to coordinate:
-
Drop Locations: Identifying pre-designated spots along the border for weapon drops.
-
Collection: Retrieving the hardware from the Attari sector.
-
Distribution: Delivering the weapons to active criminal gangs operating across the state of Punjab.
Legal Action & Demographics
The Commissionerate Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered at the Cheharta Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
Authorities expressed particular concern over the demographic of the gang, noting that one of the four arrested is a minor. This follows a worrying trend of organized crime rings recruiting youth to facilitate logistics and avoid the full weight of adult legal penalties.
“Our teams are working to trace the end-users of these weapons. We are committed to breaking the nexus between international smugglers and local gangsters to ensure the safety of the region.” — Official Statement from Amritsar Police
Context: The Border Security Challenge
This arrest is part of an intensified “zero-tolerance” crackdown on the “Drone-to-Gangster” pipeline. With the Attari sector remaining a sensitive point for contraband entry, the Punjab Police have increased surveillance on digital communications to preempt such deliveries before they reach the urban centers of the state.
