Punjab CM Rewards Class 8 Toppers with Direct Admission to ‘Schools of Eminence’

CHANDIGARH In a move aimed at fostering academic excellence and rewarding merit, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced that the top 20 merit holders of the Class 8 Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) examinations will be granted direct admission to the state’s prestigious ‘Schools of Eminence’ (SoE).

This special incentive allows the state’s highest achievers to bypass the mandatory entrance examinations typically required for enrolment in these specialized institutions.

Empowering the ‘Daughters of Punjab’

During a celebratory meeting with the toppers and their families on Sunday, CM Mann highlighted a striking trend in this year’s results. Of the top 20 positions on the merit list, 19 were secured by female students, with the sole male student ranking 20th.

“It is a moment of immense pride that daughters from ordinary families have delivered such a stellar performance,” Mann remarked. He lauded the students for their perseverance and extended his appreciation to the parents for supporting their children’s education despite economic challenges.

Key Highlights of the Announcement

  • Exemption from Entrance Exams: The top 20 students are now eligible for immediate enrolment in Schools of Eminence, which are designed to provide world-class education and career coaching.

  • Cash Rewards: To further celebrate their success, the students who secured the top three positions were awarded cash prizes of ₹50,000 each.

  • Focus on Professional Growth: By entering the SoE system, these students will receive specialized guidance for competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, NDA, and Civil Services.

A Vision for Quality Education

The ‘Schools of Eminence’ initiative is a flagship program of the Punjab government, focusing on transforming government schools into high-tech hubs of learning for students from Class 9 to 12.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government’s priority is to ensure that talent is not stifled by a lack of resources. By providing direct entry to these premier institutions, the state aims to create a level playing field for bright students from humble backgrounds, ensuring they have the tools necessary to lead the nation in the future.

“Our aim is to ensure that the spark of genius in these children from ordinary households is nurtured into a flame that lights up the future of Punjab,” the Chief Minister added.
