Major Blow to Cross-Border Narco-Terror: 64kg Heroin Worth ₹450 Crore Seized in Amritsar

AMRITSAR In one of the most significant narcotics busts in recent months, the Punjab Police have dismantled a high-level smuggling module, arresting two local men and seizing 64.62 kg of heroin. The contraband, estimated to be worth ₹450 crore on the international market, was reportedly sourced from Pakistan-based syndicates.

The Arrest and Seizure

The operation was a surgical strike carried out jointly by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) and Counter Intelligence (CI). Acting on pinpoint intelligence, teams intercepted a vehicle near Mahal village on the outskirts of Amritsar.

The two suspects in custody have been identified as:

  • Sarwan Singh (alias Gujjar)

  • Shamsher Singh (alias Shera)

Both individuals are residents of Dial Nangal village, located near the sensitive border belt.

The Pakistan Link

Initial interrogation has exposed a sophisticated logistical chain spanning the international border. According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, the network did not operate in isolation but acted as a bridge for foreign entities.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that this network procured drug consignments from across the border and supplied them across Punjab and into other states. We are currently investigating links to Pakistan-based smuggling syndicates and handlers operating from abroad,” the DGP stated.

Authorities believe the heroin was destined for major distribution hubs, likely intended to fund further criminal activities.

Ongoing Investigation

A FIR has been registered at the SSOC Police Station, Amritsar. Investigators are now focused on:

  1. Financial Trails: Tracing the money path to identify local “investors” and distributors.

  2. Digital Forensics: Analysing the suspects’ mobile devices to track communication with foreign handlers.

  3. Wider Network: Identifying additional accomplices involved in the transport and storage of the drugs.

State-wide Crackdown

This seizure is part of the Punjab government’s intensified “War on Drugs.” The DGP affirmed that special teams have been deployed across various districts to dismantle the infrastructure of these drug cartels.

“Our teams are working tirelessly to strictly curb these networks. We will not stop until the entire chain—from the suppliers across the border to the peddlers on our streets—is broken,” Yadav added.
