AMRITSAR – In a significant breakthrough against narco-terrorism, the Amritsar District Urban Police have dismantled an international drug trafficking network, arresting five smugglers and seizing 7.050 kg of heroin.
The high-stakes operation, conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, has exposed a direct supply chain operating between Pakistan-based handlers and local distributors within Punjab.

The Intelligence-Led Crackdown
Acting on precise, confidential intelligence, police teams carried out coordinated raids across the city. Commissioner Bhullar confirmed that the crackdown targeted a sophisticated cell responsible for the logistics and distribution of high-grade narcotics smuggled across the border.
The Five accused individuals were intercepted while in possession of the contraband, totalling 7.050 kg. Preliminary interrogation suggests that the group was acting as a primary bridge for international smugglers to push narcotics into the Indian hinterland.
The Pakistan Connection
Investigations have pulled back the curtain on a cross-border conspiracy. The arrested individuals were reportedly in constant communication with a smuggler based in Pakistan.
According to police sources, the network operated under a “dead-drop” and “local-link” system:
-
Command: Instructions were received directly from the Pakistani handler.
-
Distribution: A local-level chain had been established to facilitate the rapid movement of drugs to various districts across Punjab.
Legal Proceedings and Deep Investigation
The Amritsar Police have registered two separate FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to ensure a rigorous legal trial:
-
Chheharta Police Station: Case registered regarding the primary seizure.
-
Cantonment Police Station: Related case filed to address the network’s broader activities.
“Our work does not end with these arrests,” said Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. “We are currently investigating the forward and backward linkages of this entire network. We aim to identify every local contact and financial trail associated with this operation to ensure the entire scope of the syndicate is neutralized.”
Strategic Success for Punjab Police
This seizure is viewed as a major victory in the ongoing campaign to choke the supply lines of narcotics in the border region. By neutralizing this specific cell, authorities have effectively disrupted a major distribution artery that was feeding the drug menace in the state.
Police officials have signalled that further arrests may be imminent as technical data from the seized mobile phones and communication equipment is analysed.
