AMRITSAR – Legal proceedings in the high-profile Ajnala police station attack case reached a critical juncture today as Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh is scheduled to appear in court via video conferencing.
The appearance comes as a special team of the Punjab Police arrived at Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam to initiate the process of bringing the MP back to Amritsar for further investigation.

Video Conferencing and Security Measures
Due to the logistical and security challenges of transporting Singh from Assam, the administration has finalized all technical preparations for a video link appearance.
Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the exact timing of his physical transfer to Punjab, though sources confirm the police team is coordinating with Assam jail officials following the expiration of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
The Charges: 41 Individuals Named
The case stems from the February 2023 storming of the Ajnala police station. The Punjab Police have registered a comprehensive chargesheet naming 41 individuals, with Amritpal Singh identified as the prime accused. The charges include:
-
Attempted Murder
-
Assaulting Government Officials
-
Criminal Conspiracy
-
Rioting and Unlawful Assembly
Interrogation and Next Steps
Several co-accused have already been produced before the court in recent weeks. Once today’s proceedings conclude, the Punjab Police are expected to move a formal application for police remand.
“The investigation is poised to enter its next phase,” stated a senior official. “Once remand is granted, the interrogation will focus on uncovering the broader conspiracy and the roles played by various participants during the Ajnala episode.”

Heightened Alert
Security agencies across Amritsar and the border districts have been placed on high alert. Local police have increased patrolling and checkpoint monitoring to ensure law and order is maintained as the legal process shifts back to Punjab soil.
The court’s decision on the remand application later today will determine how quickly the interrogation begins.
