Amritpal Singh to Appear in Ajnala Court via Video Link; Amritsar Police Reach Dibrugarh for Transit Remand

AMRITSAR – In a major development regarding the legal proceedings against Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh, a team of the Amritsar Rural Police has arrived at Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam to initiate the process of bringing him back to Punjab.

The move comes as Singh is scheduled to appear before the Ajnala court today via video conferencing following the expiration of a two-day remand period.

Shift to Regular Judicial Proceedings

Following the recent revocation of the National Security Act (NSA) against him, the legal framework surrounding Singh’s detention has shifted. The authorities are now moving forward with regular judicial proceedings for several cases registered in Punjab.

According to officials, today’s court hearing is being conducted virtually to address these pending cases, including the high-profile 2023 incident involving the attack on the Ajnala police station.

Transit Remand and Logistics

The Amritsar Rural Police team is currently stationed in Dibrugarh to complete essential legal formalities. Sources indicate that the police are seeking a transit remand from the local authorities to legally transport Singh from Assam to Punjab.

Upon his arrival in Amritsar, it is expected that Singh will be produced physically before various courts in connection with multiple FIRs. The police intend to conduct further interrogations to advance their investigations into the events leading up to his initial arrest.

Security Heightened Across the Region

As a precautionary measure, the Punjab Police have significantly increased their presence in and around Amritsar. Additional forces have been deployed at key checkpoints and near court premises to ensure law and order is maintained throughout the day.
