DERA BASSI – A violent assault on a legal professional in Mirpur Mubarikpur village has sparked outrage and raised serious questions regarding the law-and-order situation in the region. Advocate Harpreet Singh Saini and his family members were left seriously injured after being attacked with sharp weapons and sticks near their residence.

The Ambush
The incident occurred when Advocate Saini was present near his home. According to his statement, a local resident identified as Sukhwinder Singh (alias Pappu), accompanied by a group of associates, launched a sudden and coordinated attack.
The assailants were reportedly armed with:
-
Sharp-edged weapons
-
Wooden sticks (lathis)
Advocate Saini sustained severe injuries in the fray, while his family members, who attempted to intervene, were also wounded. All victims were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Dispute Over Illegal Construction
Preliminary investigations suggest the roots of the violence lie in a contentious land dispute. Sources indicate that illegal construction was allegedly being carried out on the disputed property without the requisite permission from the Municipal Council.
Advocate Saini had been a vocal opponent of this construction, leading to a build-up of tension between the two parties. The situation reached a breaking point when the verbal disagreement escalated into the physical assault witnessed this week.
Legal Community Reacts
The attack has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity. The Dera Bassi Bar Association has taken a stern stand, condemning the act as an assault on the legal profession itself.
“We demand the immediate arrest of Sukhwinder Singh and all his accomplices. Such bravery by criminals against an officer of the court cannot be tolerated,” stated a representative of the Bar Association.
The Association has officially petitioned the police for a swift investigation and has warned of further protests if the culprits are not apprehended immediately.
Police Status and Safety Concerns
The local police have registered a formal FIR against the accused. While the investigation is in its early stages, officials have assured the public that the perpetrators have been identified and raids are being conducted to secure their arrest.
Advocate Saini, speaking from his hospital bed, expressed grave concern for his safety, stating, “I was attacked without warning. I believe my life, and the lives of my family members, remain in imminent danger until these men are behind bars.”
As of now, a heavy police presence has been noted in the area to prevent any further retaliatory violence between the two groups.
