Massive Fire Erupts at Nahar Factory in Lalru; Over 35 Fire Tenders Deployed

LALRU A massive, high-intensity fire broke out in the early hours of this morning at the Nahar factory’s cotton godown in the Lehli area near Lalru, triggering a large-scale emergency response. The blaze, which began around 2:00 AM, has caused extensive damage to the facility and remains an active situation as of this writing.

Intense Battle Against the Blaze

The fire, fueled by a vast quantity of stored cotton bales, quickly escalated, sending towering flames and thick smoke into the night sky that could be seen from several kilometers away. Due to the highly flammable nature of the cotton, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing a significant portion of the godown within a short timeframe.

Firefighting operations have been exceptionally difficult, as the fire continues to burn internally within the compacted cotton bales, resisting conventional suppression efforts. To combat the inferno, a massive coordinated effort is underway, with over 35 fire tenders rushed to the site from:

  • Derabassi & Zirakpur

  • Mohali & Panchkula

  • Rajpura & Ambala

Teams are currently working on a war footing, strategically spraying water to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent areas of the factory complex.

Economic Impact and Investigation

While there have been no reports of casualties—a significant relief given the scale of the incident—the economic toll is expected to be substantial. Preliminary assessments suggest damages amounting to lakhs of rupees.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Authorities and fire department officials are currently focused on complete containment, after which a formal investigation will be launched to identify the root cause of the incident.

Statement from the Authorities

Emergency services, local administration, and fire safety teams remain on-site, maintaining a continuous presence to manage the situation. Officials have requested that the public remain clear of the area to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles and ensure safety.
