BATHINDA, PUNJAB – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra walked out of Bathinda Central Jail on Sunday following the grant of regular bail, marking a significant development in the high-profile legal battles that have gripped the Sanour legislator for the past several months.
Greeted by a large contingent of supporters outside the prison gates, the MLA struck a defiant tone, vehemently denying the criminal charges brought against him and casting his imprisonment as a calculated act of political victimization.

A Claim of Innocence
Speaking to the press shortly after his release, Pathanmajra asserted that the various cases registered against him—ranging from mining charges to allegations of personal misconduct—are entirely fabricated.
“The Punjab government and leadership in Delhi have framed me,” Pathanmajra stated. “I was kept in jail for a year where nothing could be substantiated. If there was ever a grievance with my conduct, the party could have simply called me for a discussion. Instead, I was targeted.”
The MLA specifically addressed the mining-related charges, claiming that the prosecution failed to produce any credible witnesses, which he insists proves the case was politically motivated to stifle his influence.
Tensions Within the Party
While Pathanmajra has not yet formally severed ties with the Aam Aadmi Party, his comments reflect a deep rift with the party hierarchy. The legislator expressed frustration over the lack of development funds allocated to his constituency, alleging that his political autonomy was curtailed by withholding resources intended for the public.
“For me, politics is not just about holding an office or clinging to a party,” he remarked. “It is a means of serving the people. If the government works seriously for the development of my constituency, I am ready to make any sacrifice, but I will not be sidelined.”
Regarding his future political trajectory, Pathanmajra confirmed that he has been in contact with leaders from various political parties, though he declined to name any specific affiliations. He emphasized that he would not act unilaterally, stating he intends to consult with his core support base and constituents in Sanour before deciding on his next move.

What Lies Ahead
Before addressing the press further, the MLA prioritized visiting his “Guru Ghar” to pay obeisance, a move seen by observers as a signal of his intent to re-engage with the local sentiment of his constituency.
As of Sunday evening, the political landscape in Punjab remains abuzz with speculation. Whether this release marks a reconciliation with AAP or the beginning of a high-profile defection remains to be seen. For now, Pathanmajra has signaled that his immediate focus is on re-establishing his connection with the people of Sanour and scrutinizing the leadership roles that led to his incarceration.
