LUDHIANA – A high-level investigation is underway at the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation following a physical confrontation between a local politician and a senior government official. Police have formally registered an FIR against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Chatarveer Singh, alias Kamal Arora, for allegedly assaulting a Superintendent Engineer (SE) inside his official chamber.
The incident, which has sparked outrage among municipal employees, occurred on June 10, 2026, at the Zone B office of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.

The Incident
According to the complaint lodged by the victim, Superintendent Engineer Praveen Singla, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 PM while he was engaged in routine official duties.
Mr. Singla stated that Councillor Chatarveer Singh (Ward No. 20) entered his office uninvited, accompanied by an unidentified individual. The councillor reportedly expressed intense frustration regarding ongoing road construction projects in his ward. When Mr. Singla attempted to explain that the work was being conducted with the approval of local MLA Daljit Singh Grewal, the confrontation escalated.
“The councillor became incensed,” the complaint details. “He grabbed me by the collar and initiated a physical assault.”
The victim further alleged that the councillor and his accomplice proceeded to ransack the office, tearing up important government files and records before throwing them across the room. Throughout the encounter, the accused allegedly subjected the engineer to verbal abuse and physical intimidation.
Legal Proceedings
Following the altercation, Mr. Singla submitted a formal complaint to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, who subsequently escalated the matter to the Police Commissioner.
On June 12, Police Station Division No. 3 officially registered an FIR against Chatarveer Singh. The charges, filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), include:

Section 221: Obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions.

Section 132: Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty.

Section 324(4): Mischief causing damage.

Section 352: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.

Section 61(2): Criminal conspiracy.

Official Response
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from administrative circles regarding the safety of government officials in the line of duty. As of Monday, June 15, police investigations are ongoing. Authorities have not yet made any arrests, but confirmed that they are reviewing the details of the complaint and evidence provided by the Municipal Corporation.
The accused, Chatarveer Singh, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
