AMRITSAR – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has secured a major legal reprieve as an Amritsar court extended his anticipatory bail in connection with FIR No. 91. The court has adjourned the matter until July 3, when it is expected to hear detailed arguments from both the defence and the prosecution.
The case stems from an incident at the Majitha police station on May 31, involving allegations of forceful entry and obstruction of justice. While the legal battle continues, the defence team has signalled a shift toward holding investigating officials accountable for their procedural conduct.

Défense Alleges Procedural Violations
Following the hearing, Majithia’s counsel, Advocate Pradeep Saini, confirmed that his client had complied with court orders and joined the investigation at the Majitha police station on June 20. However, the legal team expressed deep dissatisfaction with how the interrogation was handled.
According to Saini, upon arriving at the station, Majithia’s accompanying lawyers were barred from entering the premises and were forced to wait outside for approximately three and a half hours.
“Despite citing Supreme Court directives, the police did not allow the lawyers to enter or be present with their client during the interrogation,” Saini stated.
The defence has formally announced its intent to file a contempt of court petition against the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the concerned police officials, alleging a direct violation of established legal procedures regarding the right to counsel.
Police Report vs. Defence Stance
The ongoing friction between the defence and the prosecution was further highlighted by a status report submitted to the court by the police. In this filing, investigators alleged that Majithia failed to cooperate fully with the probe.
The defence team has categorically rejected these allegations, framing them as part of a broader, politically motivated agenda. Advocate Bikramjit Singh Bath lauded the court’s decision to extend the bail, emphasizing the defence’s continued faith in the judicial system to uphold the principles of fair investigation.

Context of the Dispute
The legal controversy centres on allegations that Majithia and his supporters breached the Majitha police station to advocate for the release of an Akali worker, Jobanpreet Singh, who was being held in custody. The opposition party has consistently dismissed the charges as “fabricated” and maintains that the case is an act of political vendetta by the state government.
With the next hearing set for July 3, the courtroom is expected to become the stage for a comprehensive review of the investigation’s legitimacy and the alleged procedural lapses by the SIT.
