Security Breach and Collision: Punjab Governor’s Convoy Involved in Accident Near Samrala

SAMRALA, PUNJAB — A security breach at the Ghulal Toll Plaza led to a collision involving the convoy of Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Monday morning, resulting in injuries to two medical staff members.

The incident occurred while the Governor’s motorcade was traveling from Chandigarh toward Ludhiana. According to preliminary reports, the convoy was passing through the designated VIP lane at the toll plaza when an Innova car suddenly veered into the lane, disrupting the security formation.

In an effort to avoid a catastrophic collision, the driver of the government ambulance trailing within the convoy attempted an emergency stop. However, the driver was unable to maintain control, resulting in the ambulance crashing into the Innova.

Injuries and Emergency Response

The collision left two individuals injured:

  • Gurjant Singh: An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from Tarn Taran.

  • Gurjit Kaur: A resident of Ludhiana, who was traveling inside the ambulance at the time.

The Road Safety Force (SSF) reached the site immediately following the impact. Both injured individuals were swiftly transported to the Government Hospital in Samrala, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Official Investigation Underway

Authorities have confirmed that all vehicles transporting VIPs remained unaffected and that the Governor himself is safe and uninjured.

Local police have initiated a formal investigation into the security failure. Officers are currently reviewing high-definition CCTV footage from the Ghulal Toll Plaza to determine how the unauthorized Innova entered the restricted VIP lane and to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.

“We are investigating the entry of the private vehicle into the VIP lane and the circumstances surrounding the collision,” a police spokesperson stated. “Further action will be determined once the investigation is complete.”
