LEH, LADAKH – A wave of spiritual fervour swept through the high-altitude city of Leh on Wednesday as thousands of devotees gathered to welcome the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha. The arrival marks a historic milestone for the region, as this is the first time these specific relics have been presented for public veneration in India on such a grand scale.
A Grand Spiritual Welcome
The atmosphere in Leh was spiritually charged, blending ancient tradition with deep reverence. As the relics reached the city, the streets were lined with locals, monks, and tourists, all eager to catch a glimpse of the sacred items. The welcome ceremony featured a vibrant display of Ladakh’s rich heritage, including:

With May being a peak month for tourism, the Ladakh administration has intensified efforts to manage the crowds. Extensive security, medical aid stations, and transport facilities have been deployed around Jivetsal to accommodate the thousands of devotees and international tourists expected over the ten-day period.
“This is a moment of immense pride and peace for Ladakh,” said one local devotee. “To have the Buddha’s presence here in this form is a blessing we have waited for for generations.”
