Punjab CM Video Row: Two Arrested in Gurugram Over ‘Fabricated’ Forensic Reports

GURUGRAM/CHANDIGARH The controversy surrounding an alleged objectionable video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reached a critical turning point. On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the Gurugram Police arrested two individuals—Arun Mehandru and Ankit—following allegations of a conspiracy to produce forged forensic reports intended to clear the Chief Minister of any connection to the viral clip.

The Investigation and Arrests

The Gurugram Police, acting on a complaint filed by Jaspreet Jassi, a digital forensics professional, registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

The complainant alleged that individuals claiming to be senior Punjab government officials pressured him into certifying the viral video as an “AI-generated fake.” According to the complaint, Jassi was offered approximately ₹10 lakh to finalize reports from two specific institutions—“Cyber Yaan Lab” and “Cipher Sentinel Lab”—which police later identified as non-existent or fraudulent entities.

The investigation revealed a systematic attempt to steer forensic findings toward a predetermined conclusion, involving threats to the complainant and his family to ensure compliance.

Akal Takht’s Response

The Akal Takht, which previously issued an edict declaring CM Mann Guru-dhokhi (betrayer of the Guru) and Khalsa Panth-virodhi regarding the video, has labelled the discovery of forged reports a “matter of extreme gravity.”

Jaskaran Singh, Media Advisor to the Akal Takht Secretariat, emphasized that attempting to deceive the Sikh community and the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs is a serious offense. He urged the Haryana Police to conduct an impartial investigation and ensure that all conspirators are brought to justice, noting that history has shown that those who challenge the Akal Takht ultimately face the consequences of their actions.

Government and Political Repercussions

  • AAP’s Stance: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has consistently maintained that the video is “false propaganda” and a political conspiracy. They argue that they sought independent forensic analysis to prove the CM’s innocence and maintain that the person in the video is a lookalike actor.

  • Opposition Demands: Following the arrests, opposition leaders, including the Punjab Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, have ramped up pressure. They have demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, arguing that the attempt to use state machinery to procure fabricated evidence has stripped his administration of all moral authority.

As the investigation continues, the Gurugram Police are working to trace the financial trail, verify the origins of the video, and determine the full extent of the involvement of public officials in this alleged plot.

This report covers the latest developments in the Gurugram police investigation, providing a detailed look at the arrests and the broader political controversy involving the Akal Takht and the Punjab government.
