A state-of-the-art security jail will be built in Ludhiana for dangerous prisoners of Punjab. The jail is being constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The jail will be ready by next year. This was said by the Punjab Jail Minister in Kapurthala on Thursday.
Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar had arrived at the passing out parade of 173 wardens and 6 matrons of Punjab Jail Department at the In-Service Training Center Kapurthala. During this, the minister said that a state-of-the-art security jail is being built in village Gorsian Kadar Baksh in Ludhiana to keep dangerous prisoners lodged in Punjab jails in separate jails, which will be completed by next year. Its cost is Rs 100 crore.
Jail Minister Bhullar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is taking several steps to make the prisoners a part of the economic progress of the society by providing them employment in jails along with the security of the jails. He said that the Punjab Government is installing mobile jammers to prevent the use of mobile phones in 13 jails.
New vocational courses to prisoners
The Cabinet Minister also informed that to increase the income of the Jail Department and to provide work to the prisoners according to their skills, work is going on to set up petrol pumps in 12 jails built on main roads under the Punjab Prison Development Board. He said that petrol pumps have been started in 6 jails, while petrol pumps will be started in 2 jails soon. Describing transparent recruitment as a priority by the Punjab Government, the Cabinet Minister said that 13 DSPs, 175 wardens and 4 matrons are being recruited in the Jail Department soon. Along with promoting education in jails for the reformation of prisoners, new vocational courses are being given to the prisoners and sports are being encouraged.

He also said that prisoners in jails are being given special training for bakery products so that they can become partners in the progress of the society. Earlier, the Cabinet Minister inspected the parade and also felicitated the cadets who performed well.
