One worker has died in the accident and some are left under the debris. The work of evacuating the trapped workers is going on.
A boiler exploded on Saturday evening at Kohli Dyeing located in Phase 8 of Focal Point in Ludhiana, Punjab. The explosion of the boiler was so loud that the rear part of the two-storey roof collapsed due to its sound. 15 to 20 workers were buried under it. Half an hour after the accident, more than 12 workers came out of the debris. One of them lost his leg. Six people were taken to the hospital. One of them died. The rest of the injured are undergoing treatment. Some workers are trapped under the debris. The work of evacuating them is going on.
Rescue work continues
DCP of Ludhiana Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said that four injured have been rescued and admitted to the hospital for treatment. The rescue team is doing its work.
As soon as the information of the accident was received, teams of police, NDRF, fire brigade started the rescue operation. After receiving the information, the district police officer as well as cabinet minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, DC Jatinder Jorwal and administrative officers also reached there and took charge of the rescue operation.
According to the information, Kohli Dyeing is in Focal Point Phase Eight. Where about 20 employees were working late on Saturday evening. Suddenly there was a sound of explosion inside the building. It is suspected that the boiler had exploded. A part of the boiler hit the roof and a part of the roof fell down. When the building collapsed, a cloud of smoke was formed there.
The sound of the back part of the building falling was heard from a long distance. Hearing the sound of the explosion, people from nearby areas reached there, but due to smoke and mud, no one could move forward quickly. Meanwhile, people reduced the smoke and mud by pouring water. After which the police was informed about it.
People had started relief work even before the police arrived. As soon as the police arrived, they started removing the debris along with the workers and pulled out about 12 to 14 people buried under it. Surinder, a worker who came out of the debris after half an hour, said that a pillar under the building was corroded. A crane was called from outside to replace it. The crane was supporting the pillar when suddenly the building collapsed. Many workers including Surinder got trapped in the debris.
Surinder said that suddenly a cloud of dust rose and for a moment he had difficulty breathing. At the time of the accident, he was working on filling a machine under the roof. Surinder said that after the accident, when the cloud of dust subsided, he and about twelve of his colleagues who were near the machine somehow found a way out. Surinder said that this incident happened around 5:30 in the evening. The rescue operation is still going on till late evening. It is believed that five to six people are still trapped under the debris. Continuous efforts are being made to rescue them. The help of dog squad is also being taken on the spot.
DC Jatinder Jorwal says that the reasons of the accident are being ascertained. The first effort is to rescue the people buried under the debris safely. Medical team, ambulance etc. are all deployed on the spot.
Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian says that the workers were working in the factory. And repair work was also going on. Late in the evening, suddenly the boiler exploded and the two-storey building collapsed. Right now the priority is to rescue the people trapped under the debris. The injured have been taken to the hospital.
