Chandigarh, October 14 (City E News Bureau): In a major development following the tragic suicide of Haryana ADGP Y. Puran Kumar, the state government has sent Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor on long leave. Senior IPS officer Om Prakash Singh (OP Singh) has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana. He formally assumed charge at the Police Headquarters in Panchkula on Tuesday afternoon.

ADGP Y. Puran Kumar’s Death Triggers Administrative Action

Last Tuesday, Additional Director General of Police Y. Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide at his residence. In a note recovered from the spot, he reportedly mentioned the names of several senior police officials, including DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor. The shocking incident sparked widespread concern within the police department and prompted the state government to take immediate administrative action.

OP Singh Assumes Charge as Acting DGP

Following the government’s decision, OP Singh, a 1992-batch IPS officer, has taken over as the acting DGP. Upon his arrival at the Police Headquarters, senior officers welcomed and congratulated him. Singh later held a meeting with top officials to review the state’s law and order situation and discuss measures to strengthen policing, discipline, and transparency across Haryana.

Multi-Role Officer with Strong Administrative Background

OP Singh is currently serving as the Managing Director of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation (HPHC), where he has overseen significant infrastructure developments, including modern police housing and administrative buildings.

He also holds the charge of Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, and Director General of the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB). Under his leadership, these departments have witnessed notable reforms in efficiency, technology adoption, and staff welfare.

Known for Administrative Efficiency

Over the years, OP Singh has earned a reputation for effective management and innovative initiatives aimed at improving the working conditions of police personnel. His focus on modernization and welfare has been widely acknowledged within the force.

Interestingly, OP Singh is also the brother-in-law of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, a fact that recently drew public attention following his new appointment.

Government’s Swift Response

The Haryana government’s decision to relieve DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor and hand over charge to OP Singh is being viewed as a strong administrative step amid increasing scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding ADGP Y. Puran Kumar’s death.

Officials have stated that the government is fully committed to ensuring a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.
