SAS NAGAR: Continuing its aggressive campaign against administrative corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a Senior Assistant posted in the Mohali Deputy Commissioner’s office while accepting a bribe instalment of Rs 1,00,000.
According to an official spokesperson for the State Vigilance Bureau, the accused has been identified as Bhupinder Kaur, currently posted at the R.I.A. Branch of the DC Office, S.A.S. Nagar.
Modus Operandi and Extortion
The arrest was executed following a formal grievance filed by a resident of village Chit, located in Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused Senior Assistant had aggressively demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 8,00,000 from the complainant. In exchange, Kaur promised to pull strings and secure an official auction plot for the complainant at the Sky Rock Welfare Society, situated in Sectors 111 and 112, Mohali.
The Vigilance Trap
Unwilling to pay the extortion money, the complainant chose to approach the Flying Squad-1 of the Vigilance Bureau in S.A.S. Nagar with comprehensive details of the demand.
Acting swiftly on the verified intelligence, a specialized vigilance trap team was formed. In a textbook anti-corruption operation, the team caught Bhupinder Kaur red-handed as she accepted the initial instalment of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant. The entire transaction took place in the presence of two independent official witnesses.
Legal Proceedings
Following the successful trap, a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, S.A.S. Nagar.
The case has been booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. State anti-corruption authorities confirmed that further comprehensive investigations are currently underway to unearth potential wider networks or complicit officials connected to the plot allocation irregularities.
