Chandigarh, October 15:
A dramatic confrontation erupted between the Chandigarh Police and Punjab Police on Tuesday evening over the arrest of an accused linked to alleged forged Rajya Sabha nominations. The clash escalated to such an extent that officers from both sides reportedly drew pistols and pointed guns at each other near Sukhna Lake, a popular tourist area in Chandigarh.

According to sources, the Punjab Police team—comprising nearly 30 officers, including a Superintendent of Police—arrived in Chandigarh to arrest Navneet Chaturvedi, a resident of Jaipur, who is accused of forging the signatures of several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs to file fake nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections from Punjab.
However, upon arrival, the Punjab Police discovered that Chaturvedi was under security protection by the Chandigarh Police, leading to a heated dispute between the two forces. The situation intensified as both sides refused to back down.
Witnesses reported that pistols were drawn, creating panic in the area. The accused was eventually taken inside the Sector 3 Police Station by Chandigarh Police officers, while the Punjab Police team remained stationed outside the premises late into the night.
Senior officers, including Chandigarh SSP Kanwarjit Kaur, rushed to the spot and intervened to defuse tensions. She asserted that the accused is under Chandigarh Police’s protection and will not be handed over without proper legal procedure.
By midnight, multiple DSPs and SPs from Punjab Police had reached the Sector 3 police station with reinforcements arriving in a police bus. The station gates were locked as tensions remained high between the two forces.

The incident has raised serious questions about jurisdictional coordination and inter-state policing protocol. Further investigation is underway into both the Rajya Sabha forgery case and the police clash that followed.
