Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib): A major fire broke out on the Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express (Train No. 12204) on Saturday morning near Sirhind railway station in Punjab, triggering panic among passengers.

According to initial reports, three AC coaches of the Bihar-bound Garib Rath were engulfed in flames while the train was moving near Brahman Majra, in the Fatehgarh Sahib district. A female passenger sustained burn injuries while trying to remove her luggage and was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib for treatment.
Fire brigade teams from Sirhind Municipal Council quickly reached the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control. Officials said that AC coach G19 (223125/C) was the most severely affected, while two adjoining coaches also suffered damage. The affected compartments were detached from the rest of the train to prevent further spread.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit near the coach’s electrical panel. No fatalities have been reported so far.

Railway authorities have assured that the situation is now under control, and senior officials are monitoring the developments closely. An inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the fire.
