Bhopal: Major revelations have surfaced in the investigation into the Coldrif cough syrup tragedy that claimed the lives of several children in Madhya Pradesh. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has uncovered shocking lapses and deliberate negligence by Srisan Pharma, the company that manufactured the toxic syrup.

Syrup Released Without Testing
According to SIT findings, the Coldrif cough syrup — responsible for multiple child deaths — was never tested in any laboratory before being released to the market. This revelation points to gross misconduct and a complete disregard for safety norms by the pharmaceutical company.
Sources disclosed that K. Maheshwari, the company’s chemical analyst, admitted during interrogation that Srisan Pharma lacked proper lab testing facilities. Only a few drugs were selectively tested, while Coldrif was directly supplied to distributors without any quality check.
Drug Department Also Under Scrutiny
The SIT has also found serious lapses within the Drug Department, which allegedly failed to carry out regular inspections at the Srisan Pharma plant. Officials are being questioned over their role in allowing untested medicines to reach the market unchecked.
Face-to-Face Interrogation of Key Accused
The investigation team recently conducted a face-to-face interrogation between factory owner Ranganathan and analyst Maheshwari, continuing late into the night. The SIT had taken Ranganathan to Tamil Nadu earlier this week to collect critical documents and evidence related to the manufacturing process. The team returned on Friday evening with key materials supporting their findings.

Remand and Legal Action
Following three days of police custody, accused K. Maheshwari was produced before the court on Saturday and sent to district jail. Meanwhile, factory owner Ranganathan’s police remand has been extended until October 20 as investigations continue.
The revelations point toward a massive pharmaceutical fraud that may have directly led to the tragic deaths of children. The SIT is expected to submit its detailed report soon, and further arrests are likely.
