Panchkula: Serious questions are being raised over the death of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa’s son, Aqeel Akhtar, after a neighbour alleged that a 16-minute video posted by Aqeel in August could hold crucial evidence exposing a murder conspiracy.

Shamshuddin Chaudhary, a resident of Malerkotla and a neighbour of the Mustafa family, has filed a formal complaint with Panchkula Police Commissioner Shivas Kaviraj, demanding a thorough investigation into Aqeel’s “suspicious” death.
According to Shamshuddin, the video—posted on August 25, 2025—contains serious and objectionable allegations made by Aqeel against his father and other family members. In the video, Aqeel reportedly claimed that he was being forcibly kept in a rehabilitation centre and feared for his life, accusing his parents and sister of plotting to kill him. He also mentioned maintaining a diary detailing his experiences.
“If timely action had been taken on what Aqeel said in the video three months ago, he might still be alive,” Shamshuddin told reporters. “This is not a natural death—it’s a conspiracy that must be uncovered.”
Death Under Suspicious Circumstances
Aqeel was found unconscious at his residence in MDC Sector 4, Panchkula, around 11 p.m. on October 16. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body was handed over to the family after post-mortem the next morning.
The viscera report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death. Police sources revealed that domestic disputes between Aqeel and his father had been reported earlier, often related to money matters, and such complaints remain on record.

Police Begin Probe
Confirming the development, Police Commissioner Shivas Kaviraj said,
“We have received a complaint from Shamshuddin Chaudhary. The allegations and video evidence are being verified. The cause of death will be established after the viscera report.”
Investigators have taken the video and other social media material into custody for forensic analysis
